Jewellery Care Guide

All of my jewellery is handcrafted from high quality precious metals and stones. They are built to be worn daily, and to last forever. Because you deserve nothing but the best quality.

That being said, if you want to ensure your pieces last forever, you must take proper care of them. Here are some strategies you can implement to keep your jewellery looking beautiful forever.

For all pieces, treat them with care and make sure to remove them before doing any strenuous physical activities that could damage your jewellery with dents or scratches.

STERLING SILVER

All of my sterling silver jewellery is safe to wear in almost all situations. Sterling silver is corrosion resistant and does not rust so you can wear it in clean water with no issues. However, chemicals in some water can oxidise the ring quicker or cause damage.

Avoid wearing your sterling silver jewellery in water with chlorine or harsh cleaning chemicals such as bleach as these can damage the silver and make it brittle over time. If you occasionally swim in a chlorine pool wearing your jewellery, it’s usually fine. But washing your jewellery with clean water afterwards is a good idea.

Sterling silver will oxidise and tarnish over time. This is normal and cannot be avoided, however it is quite easy to re-polish your jewellery yourself with a polishing cloth, or to get it professionally polished by a jeweller.

Ultimately, avoiding chemicals that speed up oxidisation is the best method to reducing the effect. It is also good practice to occasionally clean your jewellery with some soap and a soft bristled toothbrush to remove any dirt that may get caught in it.

SOLID GOLD

Gold is similarly corrosion resistant like silver, and is typically okay to wear in almost all situations. However, like silver, avoid contact with any harsh chemicals such as chlorine or bleach that can react with the gold and cause it to corrode over time.

For the best safety, we recommend taking off any gold jewellery before swimming in a chlorine pool or going in the ocean. While it realistically would be fine, these chemicals can technically corrode gold over time. With such precious jewellery, you do not want to take risks.

GOLD PLATE

All of my gold-plated sterling silver jewellery is coated in a resilient layer of 24-carat gold and is built to last as long as possible. However, you must take good care of your plated jewellery to ensure the plating lasts as long as possible.

Even more than solid silver or gold jewellery, take good practice in protecting your gold-plated jewellery from bumps, scratches, excessive rubbing, or other physical wear and tear that could rub away the layer of gold.

Also take good care in protecting it from chemical corrosion. Definitely avoid wearing your gold-plated jewellery when swimming in chlorine or salt water as it may erode the gold layer over time.

If your jewellery loses a significant amount of gold-plating, you can get it re-plated at most jewellers. If you have taken proper care of your gold-plated jewellery and yet it has lost a significant amount of gold plating in a short amount of time (<18months), please don’t hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to fix the issue.

OXIDISED/BLACKENED SILVER

Some of my sterling silver pieces have been treated with liver of sulphur to oxidise them and give them a blackened appearance. The colour will hold for a long time, especially in crevices, however over time some of the raised surfaces may get polished back a bit to a shinier silver colour just by rubbing on clothing and skin. Some people may love this look, whilst others may prefer the completely black coating. If you wish to retain the black coating, you can fairly easily re-oxidise it yourself at home. The instructions for doing so will be included in the ‘how to care for my jewellery’ slip that comes with the purchase of your ring.
